If you are interested in coaching any type of AAU sports team or specifically AAU Basketball there are a few steps that you must take before earning the right to coach. If you care about kids and love the game of basketball this process should be a breeze for most. The first and easiest step is registering with the AAU as a non-athlete.
How get an AAU Membership
Step 1. Register with the AAUSports website to become a member. After you have filled out your username and password you will be presented with a selection of what type of membership that you would like to obtain. In a coaches case it is important to select non-athlete or coach.
Step 2. Purchase your AAU membership fee of only $15.00 and you will be registered on the website. However in the case of a non-athlete you will have to proceed with a background check. This background check could take up to 10 days to process so be sure to plan ahead of your plans to apply for coaching jobs.
Step 3. After your background check has been approved you will be officially an AAU non-athlete member with access to dozens of tools to begin your AAU coaching career.
How to start AAU Basketball Certification
To get certified as an AAU coach you have access to the certification process as a paid non-athlete member after you have completed the process above. Next the mandatory steps to become a coach is completing the Positive Coaching Alliance course that will teach you basic fundamentals of how to coach the youth of today and comply with the governing rules of the AAU. Currently there are three levels of the coaching certifications:
- Double-Goal Coach I: Coaching for Winning and Life Lessons
- Double-Goal Coach II: Culture, Practices and Games
- Double-Goal Coach III: Developing Triple-Impact Competitors (AAU)
The course is complete FREE for registered members of the AAU. The course includes interactive video and audio segments that include some of the best coaches and athletes of our time. Those who complete the course with an 80% approval rating will receive a certificate at completion. Each year you will be able to complete the next level of achievement while providing great lessons for your athletes.
